Children learning English at home or in class need two things: practice at the right level, and an answer key clear enough that any adult can check the work. This collection has two parts. The topic workbooks go one topic at a time: picture vocabulary, a sentence pattern with a short explanation, practice exercises and speaking questions. The practice tests follow the task types of the Starters, Movers and Flyers exams across Listening, Reading and Writing, and Speaking.
The listening sections need no audio file: each test ends with a script for a parent or teacher to read aloud while the child answers. The content comes from the English course in the Karotto app. These materials were written by Karotto around the topics of Cambridge English Young Learners and are not official Cambridge material.

Each workbook is one island of the app with 12 lessons (lesson 12 is a review). One lesson per page: picture words, a sentence pattern, circle the answer, put the words in order, a dialogue and speaking questions. Answers are at the end. Each test has Listening, Reading and Writing, and Speaking parts like the real exam, plus a listening script, answer key and model answers.
Starters · ages 6–8, beginners
Greetings, numbers, colours, school things, family, animals, clothes, the home, food and simple sentences like "I've got…", "Can you…?" and "There is…".
Movers · ages 8–10
Jobs, weather, health, the town, sports, the past simple, comparatives, "must/have to" and retelling a short picture story.
Flyers · ages 9–12
Travel, science, nature, the future with "going to/will", the present perfect, simple conditionals, writing a short letter and telling a five-picture story.
How to use these worksheets
- One page a day: a workbook lesson takes 15–20 minutes. Say each word aloud together before your child writes it.
- Read the listening script slowly, twice: just like in the exam. Avoid translating while your child is listening.
- Ask the speaking questions in English: your child answers in a full sentence. The model answers are a guide; any answer that makes sense is fine.
- Try a practice test after the workbooks for that level: when your child gets about 8 out of 10, move up a level.
Keep learning in the Karotto app
Each workbook above is an island in the app: every word has a native-speaker voice, children speak into the phone to practise pronunciation, and the exam room checks all four skills automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Are these official Cambridge exam papers?
No. Karotto wrote these worksheets around the topic lists and task types of Cambridge English Young Learners (Starters, Movers, Flyers) so children can get used to them. Karotto is not affiliated with Cambridge University Press & Assessment.
Do the listening sections have audio?
The printable files have no audio. Each test ends with a listening script for an adult to read aloud. In the Karotto app every sentence has a recorded voice.
Are the PDFs free?
Yes. Print them as often as you like for your own children or your class. If you share them, please share the link to this page rather than uploading the files elsewhere.
Which level should my child start with?
Beginners aged 6–8: start with Starters. Children who can read short sentences, aged 8–10: try Movers. Children who read short texts and write sentences: Flyers. If your child gets nearly everything in the first island right, move up.
Can I use them in an ESL classroom?
Yes. Each workbook lesson fits one class, the practice tests work as mock exams, and the speaking pages can be used in pairs.
